The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's basketball team ended a four-game road trip with a 77-68 loss versus the Windsor Lancers on Saturday (Jan 24) night.
Tonight's match-up was even from the first whistle, with both teams looking to capture the win to keep their record positive. Both teams forced six turnovers each, but the Blues capitalized and scored nine of their first 17 off Lancer turnovers. Despite a poor shooting quarter in the second, just 35 percent in contrast to Windsor's 56, Toronto trailed by just three points to end the half. The Blues fought back to push a six-point swing going into the fourth, where they led by three. Ultimately, a lack of critical rebounding led to second-chance opportunities that pushed the Lancers to the win.
Toronto was led by fourth-year centre Nigel Hylton with 21 points and seven rebounds, shooting 59 percent from the field. First-year guard Mikey Ballout notched 14 points and three rebounds, shooting 43 percent from behind the three-point arc. Third-year guard Nathan Bureau contributed an efficient ten points, five rebounds, and two steals.
Luke Grace led Windsor with a game-high 22 points, 11 rebounds, and two blocks, while Yohann Sam added 21 points and two rebounds.
Up next, the Blues return home to host Ontario Tech at Goldring Centre - Kimel Family Field House. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m., with tickets available at
