NO. 7 BLUES RALLY PAST TMU AT HOME

The No. 7 nationally ranked University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's volleyball team extended their win streak to five-straight games with a 3-1 win over the TMU Bold on Friday (Jan. 16) night at Goldring Centre – Kimel Family Field House.

Set scores were: 23-25, 25-15, 25-15, 25-15.

After dropping a tightly contested opening set, the Blues quickly seized control of the match. In a dominate second set, U of T displayed hitting efficiency and pulled away early with their first of three ten-point victories. Momentum remained in Toronto's favour in the third the Blue and White's strong play continued as second-year middle Luka Minic capped it off with a kill. U of T kept their composure throughout the fourth set but a service ace from fifth-year standout Maxime Gratton ended things as the Blues extended their winning streak to five consecutive games.

Individually, Gratton led the Blues in points with a game-high of 16.5. The Ottawa native also notched four digs and four service aces. Fifth-year outside hitter Hunter Arulpragasam's 15.5 points was second on the Blues as well as a game-high 13 kills. Second-year outside hitter Iannis Toma also reached the double-digit point plateau with 14. Fourth-year setter Michael Hickey continued to dish the ball effectively with a game-high 40 assists.

For TMU, Ross Buchanan led the way with 14 points. Riley Donovan and William Gimbert also reached the double-digit mark with 11 points each. Declan Dunn led the way for the Bold with 33 assists.

The Blues and Bold clash again tomorrow (Jan. 17) afternoon at Goldring Centre – Kimel Family Field House. First-serve is scheduled for 2 p.m., with tickets available at varsityblues.ca/tickets. The game will also be streamed live on oua.tv.
