The University of Toronto Varsity Blues softball team opened their 2025 OUS regular season with a perfect 4-0 record, defeating both the TMU Bold and Ottawa Gee-Gees in Saturday (Sept. 6) and Sunday (Sept. 7) doubleheaders.
Toronto's bats were on fire to begin the season, scoring 27 total runs across 13-3 and 14-10 victories versus the Bold on Saturday. Leading the offensive charge was second-year catcher Alexia Verches. The civil engineering student went 5-for-6 across the two games including two home runs and a double, scoring nine RBI. In Game 1 against the Bold second-year pitcher and infielder Alexa Aquanno also added a home run going 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs. Meanwhile, third-year second base Jamie Cho shined in Game 2 with a 2-for-3 outing which produced three RBI and one run. Second-year pitcher Vanessa Jeffrey picked up the win in Game 1 delivering four strikeouts while allowing just two hits. Third-year pitcher Olivia Mather took the win in Game 2 registering three strikeouts while also only conceding two hits.
Shifting to Sunday, Toronto claimed decisive 8-2 and 13-3 wins over the Gee-Gees. Second-year utility Tala Rennie excelled in both games of the doubleheader finishing 5-for-7 including three extra-base hits, tallying four RBI and three runs. Adding to the strong offensive output in Game 2 was third-year infielder Shirly Chan who scored four RBI and three runs on a 3-for-4 performance at the plate. Jeffrey secured a second win of the weekend in Game 1, pitching all seven innings registering seven strikeouts while allowing only five hits and two earned runs. Meanwhile, fourth-year pitcher Joely Ma claimed the Game 2 win recording four strikeouts in four innings of work.

U of T are back on the diamond next Saturday, Sept. 13 when they face-off against the York Lions. First pitch in the doubleheader from Hendon Park is scheduled for 2 p.m.
