NO. 7 BLUES FALL TO BOLD AT VARSITY STADIUM

The No. 7 nationally ranked University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's soccer team fell 2-1 to the TMU Bold on Friday (Sept. 19) night at Varsity Stadium.

The Blues had high quality chances throughout the first half as strong play from the defence allowed for them to push the ball up the field. In the 37th minute TMU's Taylor Fizzari opened the scoring striking the ball off a penalty kick. In the 45th minute Fizzari added her second goal of the game, finishing off a cross as the Blues went into halftime trailing 2-0.

In the second U of T's attack continued to fight their way back into the game as Toronto continued to generate quality chances against their downtown rival. In the 86th minute fifth-year defender Hannah Chown's goal got the Blues back in the game. Fifth-year defender Cassie Chan fired the ball into the box and Chown deflected the ball into the back of the net.

Toronto kept fighting into added time as an all-out attack continued to generate great chances. The Blues threw everything they had at the Bold but as the final whistle went as the Blues suffered their first defeat of the season.

U of T will be back in action on Sunday (Sept. 21) afternoon when they host the Trent Excalibur at Varsity Stadium. Kick off is scheduled for 1 p.m. with tickets available at varsityblues.ca/tickets. The game will also be streamed live on oua.tv.
