BLUES KEEP ROLLING WITH TWO MORE WINS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues softball team added another two wins to their season total after defeating the York Lions 11-4 and 9-7 on Saturday (Sept. 13) afternoon at Hendon Park.

With the two wins, U of T extended their record to 6-0 to begin their 2025 OUS campaign. The offence has been on fire, registering 68 total run across the first six games of the season. The Blues lead the OUS East division standings with the undefeated record.

On the diamond on Saturday, the Blues were able to build a 9-1 lead through the first three innings of action in the opening contest versus the Lions. At the plate, second-year shortstop Tala Rennie impressed going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, while also registering two stolen bases. Meanwhile, the trio of Shirley Chan, Isabella Trakosas, and Jamie Cho each recorded two RBI. In the pitching circle, second-year pitcher Vanessa Jeffrey picked up the win after conceding just one run across three innings of work, adding four strikeouts. Jeffrey is now 4-0 on the season with a team-high 16 strikeouts

In Game 2 of the Saturday doubleheader it was a much closer matchup as the Toronto-based rivals were all square at 6-6 after seven innings. However, a three run eighth inning sealed the win for the Blue and White. Rennie added to her strong Saturday outing with another two RBI and another run, going 2-for-4 with another big triple. Cho was also critical in the win consistently putting herself in position to score as she crossed the plate three times in the victory. Jeffrey earned her second win of the day appearing in relief during the back-and-forth contest versus the Lions.

A busy road weekend ahead, the Blues will first travel to Kingston on Saturday (Sept. 20) to challenge the Queen's Gaels before continuing to the nation's capital to face the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Sunday (Sept. 21). First pitch versus the Gaels is scheduled for 2 p.m., while the Blues and Gee-Gees will start at 11 a.m. the next morning.
