BLUES DROP OLD-FOUR RIVALRY TO NO. 9 GAELS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues football team fell 44-6 to the No. 9 nationally-ranked Queen's Gaels on Saturday (Sept. 13) afternoon at Varsity Stadium.

With the loss, the Blues drop to 1-3 on the season, while the Gaels improve to 2-2 at the midway point of the 2025 season.

TORONTO STATS: Elia Lini led all players with eight tackles (4 solo, 8 ast), while fellow third-year linebacker Ryan Stewart had seven tackles and one sack on the day.

Fourth-year quarterback Scott Barnett went 19-for-32 for 213 yards on the day. Fifth-year receiver Jake Oseen made 11 catches for 112 yards, while Chris Joseph made five receptions for 67 yards.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Gaels and Blues exchanged field goals early in the first quarter, but Queen's found the end zone first when Alex Vreeken connected a 27-yard touchdown pass with fifth-year receiver Nathan Falconi. The Gaels took a 10-3 lead into the second quarter.

Toronto found their rhythm in the second frame but the Gaels came up with the stop to force a 28-yard Sam Henke field goal. The Gaels were able to extend their lead just before half with a 13-yard touchdown reception from Falconi. U of T trailed 17-6 at halftime.

Fourth-year Blues defensive back Lachlan Scardina opened the second half with his first career interception, but it was the Gaels who got on the board next with a four-yard rushing TD from Jared Chisari.
Falconi added his third touchdown of the game off a 27-yard reception and the Gaels led 31-6 after three quarters.

Queen's added two more field goals and Chisari added his second rushing major in the fourth quarter.

GAME NOTES: The Blues honoured the 60th anniversary of the inaugural 1965 Vanier Cup champion Varsity Blues team in a special pre-game reception and on-field at halftime.
