LUCIA STAFFORD CAPTURES ANOTHER PODIUM FOR CANADA

University of Toronto Varsity Blues cross country and track and field alumna Lucia Stafford grabbed bronze in the 1500m at the 2025 NACAC Track and Field Championships in The Bahamas.

Crossing the finish line with a time of 4:11.11, Stafford earned the third step on the podium continuing to add to her collection of national and international medals. The Olympian was one of 30 athletes selected to represent Canada at the regional competition which serves as a crucial stop to accumulate World Ranking points ahead of the World Athletics Championships this September in Tokyo. Ahead of the bronze medal result she ranked as one of four Canadians within the Top 50 in the world for the 1500m, sitting at 41st overall.

An engineering grad, Stafford concluded her Varsity Blues career in 2019-20 earning U of T's T-Holders' women's athlete of the year and OUA female athlete of the year honours. Between cross country and track and field competitions she garnered 11 total OUA provincial medals and was a multiple time U SPORTS all-Canadian earning six national gold medals.

She has competed as a member of Team Canada at the FISU World University Games, Commonwealth Games, Pan American Championships, World Athleics Championships, and at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics.
