BLUES BOUNCE BACK WITH WIN AGAINST CARLETON

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team bounced back from Friday's defeat with a 4-1 win against the Carleton Ravens in their Saturday (Feb. 1) game.

Coming off a tough loss against the Ottawa Gee-Gees the night before, the Blues were quick to start, opening the scoring in the first. On a power play for the Blues, Mark Cooper released a clean shot that goaltender Zachary Paputsakis couldn't control. Nicholas Wong found the rebound in front of the net and sent it home to grab his 10th goal of the season. Between the pipes, Rayce Ramsay fought off seven shots from Carleton to keep the Blues ahead.

The second period saw Carleton grab their first goal of the game courtesy of a power play marker by Nick McCarry. For the rest of the period, Toronto and Carleton got countless chances, with Ramsay and Paputsakis being the difference makers. Late in the frame, on another power play for the Blues, Owen Robinson grabbed a spot on the scoresheet as he netted his 14th goal of the season, sniping the puck from the top of the circle to beat Paputsakis.

The last 20 minutes of the game were a tight contest, but halfway through the final frame, Mason Reeves found Graham Dickerson in the slot who netted his first goal of the season to put the Blues up by two. Looking to even up the score, Carleton pulled their goalie with under three minutes left in the game, but the Blues were able to hold them off and capitalize as Billy Moskal sealed the game for the Blues.

This win brings Toronto's record to 15-10, and puts them in second place behind TMU. Looking ahead, the Blues will be back at home for their last three exciting games before playoffs.

U of T's next game will be a tough contest against TMU on Thursday, Feb. 6 as they battle it out for the top spot in the OUA Western Conference. Puck drop for the school day game is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tickets are free for students and available at varsityblues.ca/tickets, and the game can be streamed online via oua.tv.
