RAMSAY SHUTS THE DOOR IN THE SHOOTOUT AGAINST BROCK

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team defeated the Brock Badgers 3-2 in the shootout on Thursday (Nov. 6) night in St. Catharines, Ont.

The Badgers opened the in the first period as Eric Barnard found the back of the net. Late in the frame, U of T responded as on the power play, fourth-year defender Mark Cooper set up third-year forward Rylee Hlusiak who fired the puck home to even the score before intermission.

Midway through the second period Brock regained the lead with a power play marker from Nicholas Domitrovic as U of T went into the third period trailing 2-1.
Toronto came out strong in the third, controlling possession and applying sustained pressure in the offensive zone. Their persistence paid off when first-year forward Ryan Evenhuis notched his first OUA goal as Cooper picked up his second assist of the game.

60 minutes of play wasn't enough as the two teams went to overtime. The extra frame saw both sides exchange chances in a fast-paced frame. Cooper continued his strong game with a blocked shot on a potential game-winning goal. Meanwhile fourth-year goalie Rayce Ramsay made some of the best of his 23 saves to keep the game tied.

In the shootout, fourth-year forward Zack Smith and Evenhuis both found the back of the net and Ramsay shut the door and ended the game with a save to earn the win for the Blue and White.

The Blues are back in action on Sunday (Nov. 9) afternoon when they travel to the north end of Toronto to face the York Lions. Puck drop is scheduled for 2 p.m., and the game will be streamed live on oua.tv.
