The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team fell 82-51 to the No. 3 nationally ranked TMU Bold at Goldring Centre – Kimel Family Field House on Sunday (Nov. 2) afternoon.
After falling behind in the first quarter, U of T was able to narrow the margin in the second shooting 33 per cent from the beyond the three-point line and 31 per cent from the field. TMU's offense put up 27 points in the third quarter but second-year guard Nia Wright gave the Blues momentum in the final seconds with a steal off an inbound and a quick basket. Overall, the Blues shot 22 per cent from the field, notched 57 rebounds and eight blocks.
Second-year centre Zi Wang was strong for the Blues, as the Seattle native had a game-high 12 rebounds, four blocks and three steals. Second-year guards Lia Barbieri and Dianna Comsa as well as fourth-year forward Janet Enge had a three-way tie for the U of T lead in scoring with 10 points. Comsa added three steals in the game. Meanwhile, Barbieri had a game-high five assists.
On the TMU side, Myriam Kone notched a game-high 25 points and Catrina Garvey was close behind her with 19. Hailey Franco DeRyck led the Bold in rebounds with 10. DeRyck and Kone each had a game-high four steals.
The Blues are back in action on Friday (Nov. 7) night when they host the Brock Badgers Goldring Centre – Kimel Family Field House. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m., with tickets available at
