The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's volleyball team defeated Jastrzebski Wegiel Academy 4-1 (24-26, 25-23, 25-20, 25-22, 25-22) in an exhibition game on Thursday (Oct. 9) night at Goldring Centre Kimel Family Fieldhouse.
After dropping the first set in a hard-fought contest, U of T found their rhythm in the final four sets. Toronto utilized a balanced attack to even the match in the second set before taking control in the third with their most efficient offensive performance of the game. Jastrzebski Wegiel pushed back in the final two sets but the Blues kept their composure and their consistent side-out play was a difference maker in securing the win. Overall, U of T hit .255 as a team and recorded 10 aces.
Second-year outside hitter Iannis Toma led the way offensively for U of T with 21 kills. Fifth-year outside hitter's Maxime Gratton and Hunter Arulpragasam each recorded double digit kills with 13 and 11 respectively. Third-year setter Bruce Su put his play making skills on display with 49 assists.
On the other side of the court, Bartosz Musiolik led Jastrzebski Wegiel in kills with 12 and Kacper Milewski was a strong contributor with 10 kills.
The Blues are back on the court to wrap up their exhibition season on Saturday (Oct. 18) afternoon when they host the York Lions. First-serve is scheduled for 1 p.m., with tickets available at
