The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team fell 4-1 to the TMU Bold on Friday (Oct. 17) night at Varsity Arena.
TMU opened the scoring less than five minutes into the first period as Carter MacAdams found the back of the net to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. The Blues pushed the pace in the offensive zone, outshooting TMU 16-9 as first-year forward Ryan Watt and third-year forward Rylee Hlusiak generated quality scoring chances but the 1-0 lead stood going into the first intermission.
Following a scoreless second period, TMU's William Portokalis doubled their lead. U of T cut the deficit in half midway through the final frame with a power play goal. The Blues won a puck battle in the corner and as the point, fourth-year forward Zack Smith sent a pass to third-year forward Julian Recine. The economics student fired a shot over the glove of TMU goaltender Kai Edmonds for his second goal of the season. Marko Djordjevic restored TMU's two-goal cushion before Portokalis added an insurance maker with his second goal of the game.
First-year goalie Nick Surzycia made 30 saves.
The Blues hit the ice once again at Varsity Arena on Saturday (Oct. 18) night against the Laurier Golden Hawks. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m., with tickets available at
