JEFFERS' 21 POINTS LEADS BLUES TO VICTORY OVER MCGILL

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's basketball team defeated the McGill Redbirds 100-80 in an exhibition game on Friday (Oct. 17) night at Goldring Centre Kimel Family Field House.

The Blues came out hot and shot the leather off the ball in the first quarter, shooting 67 per cent for the field and doubled McGill's score with a 32-16 lead after one. McGill pushed back in the second quarter to make it a two-point game. The Blues built momentum in the fourth quarter through great defence as second-year guard's Rohan Scott-Smith and Michael Reiss notching steals as they outscored McGill by 11 in the quarter to secure the win.

Toronto was led by third-year forward Simeon Jeffers who had a game-high 21 points, shooting 8-11 from the field. Meanwhile, Scott-Smith notched 18 points and had a game-high four assists. Centre's Lucas Prekovic and Nigel Hylton were relentless on the boards, securing eight and six respectively. U of T shot 53 per cent from the field and grabbed 44 rebounds to McGill's 30.

For McGill, Sean Duffy led the way with 18 points and William Robinson had 10 points and shot 57 per cent from the field.

The Blues are back in action on Friday (Oct. 24) night when they open the regular season against the Brock Badgers in St. Catharines, Ont. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m., and the game will be streamed live on oua.tv.
