The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's basketball team visited the Brock Badgers in St. Catharines, Ont. on Sunday (Jan. 19), coming up short with a final score of 66-53.
The Badgers came out strong and immediately set the tone, outscoring Toronto 53-34 in the first three quarters. However, the Blues came back in the fourth, besting Brock 19-14. Toronto made the Badgers pay for every mistake, getting 12 of their 53 points off of turnovers. This fourth-quarter surge combined with second-chance efforts put the Blues within ten, but ultimately, the Badgers pulled away with the win.
Fourth-year centre Lennart Weber shone bright tonight for the Blues, notching a game-high 18 points, 12 rebounds (five offensive), three assists, and one steal, all done with no turnovers. Alongside Weber, fourth-year point-guard Inaki Alvarez added 13 points, five assists, three steals, and three rebounds, with second-year forward Ryan Rudnick adding nine points— six of which came in the fourth quarter, four rebounds, four assists, and two blocks to the stat sheet.
The Badgers were led by Michael Matas with 15 points and five boards, as well as Ben Herbert, who notched 14 points and four boards.
Up next, the Blues head home for a two-game stretch, opening with an 8 p.m. tip-off against the Laurier Golden Hawks on Wednesday (Jan 22). The game will be streamed via
