The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's soccer team battled the nation's top-ranked Carleton Ravens to a 1-1 on Friday (Sept. 20) evening at Taag Field in Ottawa.
Toronto struck first in the opening half when second-year midfielder Mehdi Essousi provided a brilliant assist to third-year midfielder Michael Osorio, who cut inside and slotted the ball neatly into the bottom right corner. Carleton quickly responded with a goal of their own, leveling the score before halftime.
Despite a scoreless second half, the Blues continued to press forward, coming close to taking the lead when Niklas Hallam fired a dangerous shot that narrowly missed the mark. Goalkeeper Sebastian Campeau stood tall throughout the match, making crucial saves to keep Toronto in the game and secure the point on the road.
Toronto's record now stands at 5-1-1. Next Sunday, the Varsity Blues will host Carleton at Varsity Stadium in a highly anticipated rematch. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:15 p.m., and fans can catch the action live on oua.tv.
