BLUES FALL TO UNB IN HARD-FOUGHT EXHIBITION MATCH

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team lost 5-1 to the UNB Reds in exhibition action on Friday (Sept. 20) night at Varsity Arena.

The Varsity Blues came out strong in the first period of their matchup against the UNB Reds, setting the tone right from the puck drop. Toronto showed their grit and intensity with fast-paced play dominating the first 20 minutes. Third-year goaltender Rayce Ramsay was sharp between the pipes, turning aside some key chances. Offensively, the Blues pressed hard, generating several scoring opportunities, but UNB's Samuel Richard held firm.

UNB broke the deadlock midway through the second period with a powerplay goal from Macauley Carson, capitalizing on a too-many-men penalty against Toronto. The Blues kept their composure and limited any further scoring chances, heading into the third period trailing just 1-0.

The final period saw Toronto's second-year Julian Recine give the team some life, as he tied the game at 1-1. However, UNB's Oscar Plandowski and Kale McCallum extended the lead, making it 3-1, and UNB continued with two more goals from Benjamin Corbeil and an empty-netter from Cole Huckins, sealing the win with a final score of 5-1.

Rayce Ramsay had a solid performance, making an incredible 43 saves. Despite the loss, Toronto also managed to get 30 shots on net, but UNB's netminder Richard had a strong performance.

The Blues will be back in action on Saturday (Sept. 21) night against the University of New Brunswick Reds at Varsity Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 6 p.m. and tickets are available at varsityblues.ca/tickets.
