The University of Toronto Varsity Blues softball team defeated the TMU Bold 7-3 and 4-3 on Saturday, September 14 at Hendon Park.
 
Game 1: Toronto 7, TMU 3
 
The highlight of the game was home runs by Alexia Verches and Janelle Hodge.
 
Vanessa Jeffrey earned the win for Varsity Blues. The starting pitcher allowed five hits and three runs (one earned) over seven innings, striking out seven and walking none. Kiyah Hurry took the loss for TMU.
 
Hodge and Verches were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for Varsity Blues while hitting back-to-back. Mather and Julia Lacaria each drove in two runs for Varsity Blues.
 
Game 2: Toronto 4, TMU 3
 
It came down to the wire but the Varsity Blues grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 4-3, over TMU. The game was tied at three in the bottom of the seventh when an error scored one run.
 
Olivia Mather started in the circle for Varsity Blues. The starter gave up five hits and two runs (zero earned) over three and two-thirds innings, striking out four and walking one. Joely Ma pitched three innings of zero-run ball for Varsity Blues in relief. The righty surrendered one hit, striking out five and walking five.
 
Mather and Tala Rennie were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for Varsity Blues. Hodge, Mather, and Cho each drove in one run for Varsity Blues.
 
The Varsity Blues return to action next Friday night (Sept. 20) as they host the Ottawa Gee-Gees in their home opener at Thomson Memorial Park.
