The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team conquered the Brock Badgers 6-3 to win their final regular OUA season game on Friday (Feb. 9) night in St. Catherines, Ont.
Although the Badgers opened the scoring in this game just six minutes after puck drop, the Blues offensive strategies proved unstoppable. First-year forward Julian Recine evened the scoring on a Blues power play, with a crisp pass from third-year defenceman Nick Grima.Three minutes later, Recine struck again setting up third-year forward Ben Woodhouse for a breakaway. Woodhouse's chance secured his sixth goal of the season for the Blues, putting them up 2-1. Brock was quick to respond with a goal from forward Matthew Duarte, however it wasn't enough to hold the Blues back. Blues third-year forward Billy Moskal secured his seventh goal of the season for the Blues, putting them up 3-2 going into the second period.
Throughout the second period the Blues set up numerous goal scoring opportunities. However, it was the Badgers who find the net. Brock scored their third and last goal of the game, to even the score at 3-3.
The third period was a scoring frenzy for the Blues, with Julian Recine scoring his second goal of the game just 20 seconds after the whistle blew. Minutes later, Blues captain Cole Purboo stole the puck past the blue line and secured a breakaway goal. Third-year forward Owen Robinson finalized the Blues 6-3 win over the Badgers with an empty-netter assisted by Recine.
The Blues are back in action next week for the first round of the OUA playoffs. With dates and times being determined later this week. All games will be streamed live on oua.tv.
