STREAK CONTINUES AS BLUES EARN FIFTH CONSECUTIVE PROVINCIAL MEDAL

For the fifth consecutive season, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's squash team have earned a provincial medal, claiming bronze on Sunday (Feb. 11) afternoon at the 2024 OUA Men's Squash Championship.

Hosted by Western University at the White Oaks Resort in Niagara-On-The-Lake, Ont., the Blues battled to a 3-2 overall record at the provincial showcase, including a 4-2 bronze medal match victory over the Waterloo Warriors on Sunday (Feb. 11).

In addition to the provincial medal, both Blues No. 1 Ali Shalaby and No. 2 Will Harris were recognized as 2024 OUA all-stars.

In a rematch from the pool play matches earlier in the weekend, the Blues were able to avenge the round-robin loss to the Warriors with four victories from Harris, Yawar Ashraf, Jaivir Dhillon, and Usman Khan. Both Harris and Ashraf made quick work of their Warrior opponents, winning in three straight sets. Meanwhile, Dhillon and Khan battled hard through grueling 40-plus minute matches, helping the Blues maintain their current streak of medaling at the OUA championships.

"The Team played very well and most of our players delivered their finest squash of the year this weekend," said Varsity Blues men's squash head coach John Lennard. "Everyone with the team is very happy with the performances and the weekend overall."
