BLUES BESTED BY NO. 10 GEE-GEES

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's basketball team finished their fall semester schedule with a thrilling matchup against the No. 10 nationally ranked Ottawa Gee-Gees on Friday (Nov. 29) afternoon at Goldring Centre, where they lost 96-77.

The Blues came out blazing in the first, shooting over 63% in comparison to the Gee Gee's 39%. The Blues also won the boards, out rebounding the taller Gee-Gees 43-36, giving them a 44-37 lead at halftime. However, the Gee Gee's came out red-hot in the second half, out scoring Toronto 59-33 in the final twenty minutes to secure their eighth win of the season.

The Blues had five players in double figures; fourth-year centre Lennart Weber notched a quick double-double, with 12 rebounds and 13 points, shooting perfectly from the floor. First-year point guard Rohan Scott-Smith was a bright spot for the Blues, notching a career-high five assists alongside 11 points and three steals. The Blues leading scorer was fourth-year McGill transfer Quarry Whyne, who put up 14 points, four steals, and four rebounds. Second-year guard Simeon Jeffers also put up 12 points and six boards shooting 72 percent from the field.

The Gee-Gee's were led by Jacques Guemeta, who notched 23 points, seven rebounds, and six steals, and Justin Ndjock-Tadjore who notched 18 points, four rebounds, and four assists, shooting 80 percent.

Toronto closes out the 2024 half of their schedule with a 4-7 record. The Gee-Gees improve to 8-2.
