Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

FAIRLIE SHINES IN NET, BLUES FALL SHORT AGAINST UQTR

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team lost 3-0 against the OUA defending champs and No. 3 ranked UQTR Patriotes, in their home game on Friday (Nov. 15) night at Varsity Arena.

Eager to face UQTR, the Blues hit the ice with energy, showcasing impressive offensive and defensive play. Despite recording only eight shots on goal in the first period, they controlled much of the play, creating numerous opportunities that were blocked by heavy traffic in front of the net. On the other end, Jordan Fairlie delivered a standout performance, including a stunning save that left him sprawled on his stomach midway through the period. While neither team managed to score, both displayed exceptional skill throughout.

The Varsity Blues lost momentum in the second period as UQTR's quick, aggressive play intensified the game. Midway through, a turnover at the blue line set up Conor Frenette to pass to Felix Lafrance, who slipped the puck past Jordan Fairlie despite a strong sliding save attempt. Later, during a 5-on-3 Patriotes power play, Frenette capitalized on a rebound for UQTR's second goal. While the Blues struggled offensively, their defensive efforts limited further damage despite UQTR increasing their shot count to 29.

The final 20 minutes saw momentum swing back in Toronto's favor, as the goal differential fueled the Blues' comeback energy. In the first 10 minutes of the third period, they outshot UQTR 10–1 but couldn't get past goaltender Charles-Antoine Lavallee. A UQTR penalty midway through the third gave the Blues a key advantage, but strong defensive play from the Patriotes thwarted their efforts despite a determined push. With 35 shots on net, Jordan Fairlie continued to keep the Blues in the game, making an incredible breakaway save near the end of the game. In the last two minutes the Blues made one final effort, pulling their goalie to grab a 6-on-5 advantage, however the Patriotes defense didn't waver and they grabbed an empty net goal, ending the game with final score of 3-0.

The Blues will be looking to put this game behind them and grab another win against the Windsor Lancers on Saturday, November 16 at Varsity Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 4 p.m. Tickets are available at varsityblues.ca/tickets. The game will also be streamed live on oua.tv.
