BLUES BATTLE IN CLOSE CONTEST WITH LANCERS

Box Score

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team lost 5-4 against the Windsor Lancers in their home game on Saturday, November 16.

Looking to grab a couple points after they were shut out by UQTR the previous night, the Blues came out with a lot of grit. The game remained an evenly matched battle throughout much of the first. Midway through the frame, Billy Moskal broke the stalemate, firing a rocket from the point that soared top shelf past Windsor's goalie Nathan Torchia. The celebration was short-lived, as Windsor quickly answered back, with Alex Cunningham finding the back of the net to tie it up. The remainder of the period saw balanced play, with both sides showcasing strong defense and goaltending. The first period ended at 1–1, leaving the game wide open heading into the second.

The second period was an action-packed 20 minutes, with both teams exchanging goals and taking advantage of key opportunities. Windsor struck first just two minutes into the period, as Keegan McMullen capitalized on an assist from Aaron Shaw to put the Lancers ahead. Toronto responded quickly only a few minutes later when Nicholas Athanasakos found the back of the net. Shortly after, Mark Cooper capitalized on a power play, receiving a pass from Nicholas Wong and firing a beautiful shot from the point to give the Blues the lead. However, Windsor battled back late in the period, tying the game when Matt McNamara beat Jordan Fairlie. The teams entered the final frame locked in a tight 3–3 battle.

The third period kept the intensity high as both teams pushed to break the tie. Windsor struck early when Kirk Mullen scored, putting the Lancers ahead once more. Toronto answered swiftly, showcasing resilience on the penalty kill when a race to a loose puck allowed Jacob King to net a shorthanded goal with help from Owen Robinson to even the score at four apiece. The Lancers regained their lead halfway through during a power play, as McMullen found the back of the net. Despite Toronto's efforts to rally late in the game, the Blues couldn't find another equalizer, and Windsor held on for a hard-fought 5–4 victory.

Looking ahead, the Blues will be on the road next weekend to face the Guelph Gryphons on Friday (Nov. 22) at 7:30 p.m. and the Brock Badgers on Saturday (Nov. 23) at 4 p.m. Both games will be streamed live on oua.tv.
