SWIMMING OPENS 2024-25 WITH WINS OVER WATERLOO, GUELPH

Results

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's and women's swimming teams defeated the Guelph Gryphons and host Waterloo Warriors in tri-meet action on Saturday, October 5.

Leading the way was 2023-24 T-Holders' athlete of the year Nina Mollin, who won both the 100 yard breaststroke (1:06.04) and the 200 yard IM (2:05.53). In her first meet as a Varsity Blue, Angel Yao was also a double winner, finishing first in the 100 yard butterfly in 57.62 and following that up with another win in the 50 yard butterfly (26.58).
 
Gemma Norman added to the list of individual victories by taking first place in both the 100 yard backstroke (59.14) and the 50 yard backstroke (27.44).
 
Katie Marovino claimed a win in both the 200 and 400 yard freestyle, while Kayla Houlder won the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 24.18.

On the men's side, Albert Bouley stood out with two wins, securing first place in the 50 yard freestyle with a swift 20.88 and winning the 50 yard butterfly in 22.79. In the 200 yard freestyle, Bill Dongfang clinched victory with a time of 1:43.33, while Quinn Matteis won the 400 yard freestyle in 3:41.07, demonstrating his endurance in the middle-distance freestyle events.
 
Carter Buck added to Toronto's tally by winning the 200 yard IM in 1:54.97, and Ben Winterborn secured a victory in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 51.36. Marco Warma added a victory in the 100 breaststroke in 59.04, while veteran Liam Weaver won the 50 yard backstroke in 24.58.
 
The Blues return to the pool on Friday, October 25 for the U of T Downtown Sprint Meet.
