BLUES FALL TO NO. 2 GEE-GEES IN OUA QUATER-FINAL

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's soccer team concluded their 2024 season falling 2-1 to the No. 2 Ottawa Gee-Gees on Wednesday (Oct. 23) night in Ottawa. Despite the fierce competition and the team's relentless effort, Ottawa's early and second-half goals proved too much to overcome.

Ottawa took the lead early with a goal by Nibo Dlamini in the fifth minute, showcasing their offensive pressure right from the start. Toronto's goalkeeper, Maria Godoy Atrash, stood tall under a barrage of shots, making seven saves to keep her team in the match

Toronto found hope in the 34th minute when Hannah Chown calmly converted a penalty kick, leveling the score at 1-1.

The second half saw both teams battling for control, but it was Ottawa who capitalized once more, with Dlamini scoring her second goal of the match in the 52nd minute. Toronto pushed forward, with a couple of attempts from Hannah Harkin and Anne Yeomans, but they were unable to find the equalizer.

While the Varsity Blues worked tirelessly until the final whistle, they couldn't break through Ottawa's defense.

With the loss, the Blues conclude their 2024 campaign with a record of 7-4-3.
