Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

ANOTHER THIRD PERIOD COMEBACK FOR THE BLUES

The No. 6 nationally ranked University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team picked up their third straight win, defeating the Carleton Ravens 3-2 on Saturday (Oct. 19) afternoon in Ottawa.

Midway through the first period the Ravens opened the scoring as forward Olwen Jones finished off a pass from forward Lanie Guimond, putting Carleton up 1-0. Despite trailing after the first period, the Blues had a strong finish to the period as they got good scoring chances but went into the first intermission down 1-0.

Early in the second period Toronto was rewarded for their efforts as fourth-year forward Katy McKenna retrieved the puck off a faceoff and sent a pass for fourth-year forward Abby Howland who found the back of the net. Howland's goal was her first of the season to tie the game at one goal each. Midway through the frame Carleton regained the lead with forward Sydney Berta finding the back of the net, putting U of T behind 2-1 after two periods of play.

The third period began with a big save from second-year goaltender Carlee Vance, making the best of her 29 saves in the game as the Ilderton, Ont., native slid across the crease to stop Carleton's two-on-one attack to keep the score at 2-1.

With 18 shots on net in the third period, the Blues controlled puck possession and midway through the final 20 minutes they were able to tie the game as second-year forward Ashley Delahey gave the puck to a trailing Taylor Delahey who sent the puck to her twin sister in front of the net to tie the game at two goals each.

With less than three minutes left in the game, Ashley Delahey scored her second goal of the game, tipping in a shot from first-year defender Sadie Watkins-Southward for the game-winning goal, securing the 3-2 win for the Varsity Blues over the Ravens.

The Blues are back in action on Friday (Oct. 25) night when they play their home opener against the Brock Badgers at Varsity Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. with tickets available at varsityblues.ca/tickets. The game will also be streamed live on oua.tv.
