BLUES DROP HOME OPENER TO GAELS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team fell 5-2 to the Queen's Gaels in their home opener on Saturday (Oct. 12) night.

Down 4-0 midway through the game, second-year forward Aiden Reeves got the Blues on the board midway through the second period as he sent a shot from the point through traffic to find the back of the net.

Less than three minutes later, third-year forward Zach Smith of Saskatoon cut the deficit to two as his short-side shot sailed over the glove of Queen's netminder Christian Purboo.

Unfortunately for the Blues, the Gaels added a late goal to come away with the 5-2 win.

Second-year Blues netminder Jordan Fairlie made 32 saves in the loss.

The Blues will be back at next Saturday, October 19 as they travel to take on the Western Mustangs. Puck drop is scheduled for 3 p.m.
