The University of Toronto Varsity Blues secured a 76-72 win over the Memorial University of Newfoundland Sea-Hawks on October 10, 2024 at the Goldring Centre.
Iñaki Alvarez and Lennart Weber led the charge for the Blues, picking up 19 points each. Alvarez connected on five three-pointers, and Weber picked up eight rebounds.
Memorial's Flynn Boardman-Raffet put up 32 points, but it was not enough as Toronto's comeback efforts overpowered the Sea-Hawks, who once lead by ten points in the second quarter. The Blues found their stride in the third quarter outscoring Memorial 24-15 in the frame.
Toronto's defensive game played a big role in the victory, scoring 19 points on the 21 turnovers that they forced. The Blues made sure to capitalize on the Sea-Hawks fouls, shooting 83% from the free-throw line, which was crucial in the late stages of the fourth quarter, helping seal the win.
The Blues continue their preseason on Saturday, October 12 against the McGill Redbirds at the Goldring Centre. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
