The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team lost 70-52 to the Brock Badgers on Saturday (Jan. 6) evening at the Golding Centre Kimel Family Field House.
It was a tight first quarter, with both teams trading chances throughout but the Badgers finished the quarter with a two-point lead. In the second quarter, Brock continued to extend their lead to eight points. Despite a strong third quarter where the Blues outscored Brock, the Badgers kept up the pressure and held the lead to the end of the game for a 70-52 score line.
Toronto was led by fourth-year forward Sabrina Nero, who recorded a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Right behind her was guard Ellen Ougrinov who finished the game with 11 points.
Brock guard Madalyn Weinert recorded 27 points and 11 rebounds in the Badgers win, while teammate Oluwatito Akinnusi finished with 23 points and 14 rebounds.
Looking ahead, the Blues face off against the Western Mustangs on Friday, January 12 in London, Ont. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m., with the game being streamed online at oua.tv.
