NO. 8 BLUES TAKE OVERTIME WIN AGAINST LAKERS

The No. 8 nationally-ranked Varsity Blues men's hockey team beat the Nipissing Lakers 3-2 in overtime on Saturday (Jan. 6) night in North Bay, Ont.

It was a quiet first period on the scoresheet until Blues defencemen Ryan Barbosa scored on the power play in the final minutes of the period. Both teams were unable to get past Blues goalie Jett Alexander and Lakers goalie Zach Roy in the second period.

It was another stellar performance for Alexander, who helped the Blues to victory with a 35-save night.

Early in the third period, Ben Woodhouse put the Blues up by two with a spin-o-rama goal after passing through two Lakers. Nipissing would not go down without a fight, and would later tie the game with goals from Charles Farmer and Reilly Mayne, taking the game to overtime

It was third-year forward Owen Robinson who sealed the deal for the Blues in overtime scoring with under two minutes to play.

The Blues will now return home to face off against McGill University on Friday, January 12. Puck drop is set for 5 p.m., with tickets available online at varsityblues.ca/tickets. The game will also be streamed online at oua.tv.
