The No. 8 nationally-ranked University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team fell 5-1 to the No. 9 McGill Redbirds at Varsity Arena on Friday (Jan. 12) night.
The Redbirds opened the scoring a minute into the first period, with defenceman Taylor Ford putting the puck past Blues goaltender Jett Alexander. The Blues would continue to apply the pressure for the remainder of the first period, but the Redbirds doubled their lead in the second half of the frame with a goal from Brandon Frattaroli.
Determined to come back, Blues forward Nicholas Wong set up teammate Ben Woodhouse to cut into McGill's lead. However, the Redbirds responded with back-to-back goals and secured a 4-1 lead heading into the third.
Although the Blues stepped up their intensity in the third period, the Redbirds scored one more goal on an early power play, securing their 5-1 win over the Blues.
The Blues are back in action on Saturday (Jan. 13) night in Windsor, Ont. where they will face off against the Windsor Lancers. Puck drop for the game is set for 7:30 p.m., with the game being stream online at
