The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's curling team competed this past weekend in St. Catharines at the Brock Invitational, completing four matches throughout the two-day event.
Toronto opened the invitational with an early Saturday morning matchup versus the Guelph Gryphons, falling by a final of 7-4. Holding a one point advantage after six ends of action, the Blues were unable to keep up with the Gryphons through the final two as the opponents from Guelph pulled away with four unanswered points.
The Blues responded later in the day with a tightly contested 5-4 victory over the TMU Bold. Switching roles for the Saturday night showdown, U of T were trailing by a point in the eighth and final end. However, they were able to string together a number of good shots, scoring two to take the lead and the win over the Bold.
The offence continued to roll for U of T the next morning, as they defeated the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks 10-6. The Blues were able to score multiple points in four of the seven ends completed in the high-scoring outing.
Toronto then concluded the event with a 6-4 loss to the host Brock Badgers. Tied 4-4 through five ends, the home side were able to secure points in both the sixth and seventh ends as time ran out in the late Sunday evening contest.
The Blues finish their 2023-24 invitational schedule with an overall record of 8-6 versus OUA opponents. Next they will head to the Guelph Curling Club from Feb. 2-4 for the OUA Women's Curling Championship.
