The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's basketball team earned a 94-68 victory versus the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks at the Goldring Centre Kimel Family Field House on Wednesday (Jan. 6) night.
From the opening tip-off, the Blues held the lead against the Ridgebacks on Wednesday evening. Toronto's defence impressed, limiting the Ridgebacks to only two made field goals during the first quarter. By half, the Blues established dominance on the boards, securing 24 rebounds to just 12 for the Ridgebacks. Toronto would out-rebound Ontario Tech 45-26 by the final whistle. The Blues offence was also on point, shooting over 50 percent from the field, while nailing 12 three-pointers.
Fifth-year guard Callum Baker led Toronto in the victory, scoring a team-high 22 points, while adding four rebounds, four assists and one steal. Second-year guard Noah Ngamba also achieved a 20 point night, finishing an efficient 7-for-10 from the field, including one made three pointer, and 5-for-6 from the free throw line. Registering his fourth double-double in the last five games, fourth-year forward Anthony Daudu secured a game-high 12 rebounds, with six on the offensive glass, along with 15 points.
Zubair Seyed led the way for the Ridgebacks with a game-high 23 points.
Toronto have now won six of their last seven games, making a march up the OUA standings. The Blues will look to maintain the momentum as they next host the No. 3 nationally ranked Queen's Gaels at the Goldring Centre on Saturday (Jan. 20) night.
