The University of Toronto Varsity Blues swimming team welcomed the York Lions to the Athletic Centre on Saturday (Jan. 13) morning, with the Blues men and women both earning the victory in the friendly dual meet.
"It was good to get our team off the blocks again after our winter training camp," said Blues swimming assistant head coach Linda Kiefer. "We have a bunch of meets coming up the rest of the month and we had some of our swimmers try something new with multiple events today, so It was good to race again."
For the U of T women, swimmers with two wins on the day included Lily Chubaty (50m freestyle, 50m backstroke), Teagan Vander Leek (200m freestyle, 100m IM), and Sydney Winokur (50m breaststroke, 100m breaststroke)
Meanwhile, the Blues men also had a trio of two race winners in Graeme Aylward (50m freestyle, 100m freestyle), Carter Buck (200m freestyle, 100m backstroke), and Jack Gu (50m breaststroke, 100m breaststroke).
Next up for U of T is another dual meet with the Blues hitting the road to challenge the Western Mustangs in London on Saturday, Jan. 20. Toronto will then make a quick turnaround back to the Athletic Centre for the annual U of T Winter Invitational on Sunday, Jan. 21.
