The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's basketball team lost 96-87 to the Western Mustangs in their first road game of 2024 on Friday (Jan. 12) night in London, Ont.
The Blues had a strong start to the game, leading 27-22 by the end of the first quarter. From there the back-and-forth game saw nine lead changes throughout as both teams were able to shoot over 40 percent, while the Blues excelled at the free throw line finishing the night 22-for-24 from the stripe. However, seven fourth quarter three-pointers for Western allowed the Mustangs to pull away in the closing minutes for the road victory.
Toronto was led by fourth-year guard Callum Baker who scored a team-high 18 points, shooting 100 percent on nine trips to the the free throw line. Closely behind him Anthony Daudu added 16 points and dominated under the basket with 10 rebounds for the double-double. Noah Ngamba was also strong in the paint grabbing 10 rebounds, while both Nadav Sahar and Somachi Agbapu also reached double-digits points for the Blues with 11 apiece.
Jerric Palma stood out for the Mustangs scoring a team-high of 26 points. Tyson Dunn also helped out the Mustangs with an impressive 10 assists.
