Three championship dynasty teams highlight the 16 newest University of Toronto Sports Hall of Fame inductees who will be celebrated on Thursday, May 25, 2023.
The event will be held at Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport on the University of Toronto's downtown campus. Tickets are available here. The reception will start at 6 p.m., with the ceremony to follow at 7 p.m. in the Kimel Family Field House.
Two-time Olympian Lesley Reddon and two-time world champion Andria Hunter will join the Hall of Fame together with the 1990-91 and 1991-92 OWIAA champion Varsity Blues women's hockey teams.
Four-time all-Canadian and CIAU championship MVP Dana Anderson as well as former CIAU player of the year and dual-sport athlete Alex Brooks-Hill will be honoured as athlete inductees alongside the 1996 CIAU champion Varsity Blues field hockey team.
The 1967-68 and 1968-69 OQAA champion men's soccer teams, who went undefeated in both seasons, along with MVP and team captain Eric Sereda will also be inducted on May 25.
Former Canadian national soccer player and 1988 CIAU champion Peter Sarantopoulos, and former captain of the 1950-52 Varsity Blues basketball teams Ed Brennan round out the individual inductees who will be honoured.
In addition, one builder and four athletes will be inducted posthumously: William Belfry Henry, member of the first UTAA men's athletic directorate, as well as wrestling Olympian Rodger Doner, former professional soccer player David Rowland; boxing, wrestling and fencing champion Frederick Fell and ice hockey standout Helen Carefoot will be celebrated on May 25.
The Sports Hall of Fame honours U of T's greatest athletes and builders. It was established by the T-Holders' Association in 1987 as part of an ongoing effort to preserve and display the records relating to the outstanding historical tradition of athletic, academic and community leadership fostered by the University of Toronto.
