Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

MURMANN, KOTUN SHINE IN SWEEP OVER GRYPHONS

After three action-filled sets, the Varsity Blues women's volleyball team defeated the Guelph Gryphons 3-0 (25-18, 26-24, 25-15) on Friday (Feb. 3) night at Goldring Centre for High-Performance Sport.

TORONTO STATS: Second-year Julia Murmann led all players with 15 points in the win. The Toronto, Ont. native tallied 12 kills and three aces.

Fourth-year Hope Kotun had 14 points off of 10 kills, three aces and one solo block.

Fourth-year setter Jasmine Safar was the backbone of the Blues, leading all players with 22 assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Varsity Blues dominated the game from the first serve, quickly gaining the lead with a streak of kills and retaining that lead for the rest of the set (25-18).

The second set followed the same pattern. The Blues went ahead early, but this time, the Gryphons were able to battle back. With the score level at 24-24, both teams were on edge, but Toronto persevered, scoring two deciding points to take the second set 26-24.

The Gryphons managed to gain a narrow lead at the beginning of the third set. After trading the lead back and forth, the Blues were able to re-find their momentum by way of Murmann and Bilawey. The pair delivered four-straight kills to secure a lasting lead. Ultimately, the Blues would see out the Gryphons taking the third and final set by a score of 25-15.

UP NEXT: The Blues return to action Saturday, February 4 away at TMU's arena vs the TMU Bold. First serve is set for 6:00 p.m.
