BLUES COMEBACK FALLS SHORT VS. BADGERS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team fell to the Brock Badgers 57-47 on Friday (Feb. 3) night at the Bob Davis Gym in St. Catharines, Ont.
 
The Blues now hold a 4-15 record on the season, remaining in fifth place in the OUA Central division.

TORONTO STATS: Veteran guard Ellen Ougrinov led the Blues with 18 points and added six assists and three rebounds.
 
Third-year guard Lauren Boers recorded 10 points and a steal, while second-year forward Jada Poon-Tip had eight points and seven rebounds coming off the bench.
 
Defensively, second-year Gabby Reed had an impressive night. The Chantilly, Va. native tallied seven rebounds, three blocks, two assists and two steals.

HOW IT HAPPENED: A strong offensive performance from the Blues saw a quick start to the first quarter. Aided by three-pointers from Ellen Ougrinov and Lauren Boers, the Blues jumped out to an early 8-2 lead. However, the Badgers battled back ending the quarter ahead 18-8.
 
Targeting the corners throughout the second quarter, the Blues scored 11 points, but by the half, the Badgers extended their lead to 33-19.
 
Down 49-34 at the end of the third quarter, the Blues looked to shift the momentum in the fourth. Helped by an impressive defensive performance from Gabby Reed, the Blues used the fourth quarter to cut the Badgers lead to 10.

In the end, the Badger would hold off the Blues finishing the game up 57-47.

UP NEXT: The Varsity Blues return to the court on Friday, February 10 to face off against the McMaster Marauder at the Goldring Centre for High-Performance Sport. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
