Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

LAST MINUTE GOAL PUSHES NO. 2 BLUES OVER BOLD IN GAME 1

After a goal from Sophie Grawbarger with 15 seconds to play, the No. 2 nationally-ranked Varsity Blues women's hockey team beat the TMU Bold 2-1 in Game 1 of the OUA quarter-finals on Thursday (Feb. 23) night at Varsity Arena.

WHAT HAPPENED: The Bold came out strong in the first period taking 11 shots compared to the Blues four. TMU opened the scoring early in the period with a goal from Olivia Giardetti. It was a quiet second period on the scoresheet, with the defence for both teams limiting the chances for the forwards.

The Blues came out to play in the third period with rookie forward Kaitlyn McKnight tying up the game on the power play two minutes into the frame. The Blues continued to battle hard for the rest of period. With 15 seconds to play, Grawbarger scored to solidify the win for the Blues.

Blues starting goalie Erica Fryer finished the game with 19 saves in the win.

UP NEXT: Game 2 is set for this Saturday, February 25 at Mattamy Athletic Centre. Puck drop is at 2 p.m. Game 3, if necessary, will take place back at Varsity Arena, on February 26 at 4 p.m.
