Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

NO. 1 BLUES FALL IN OT TO NO. 10 NIPISSING

The No. 1 nationally-ranked Varsity Blues women's hockey team fell to the Nipissing Lakers 2-1 in overtime on Friday (Feb. 10) night in North Bay, Ont.

The loss breaks the Blues 16-game winning streak, starting on November 17, 2022 with a 3-0 win over the Laurier Golden Hawks.

With the loss, the Blues sit first in the OUA East division with 62 points and a 20-3-1 record. 

WHAT HAPPENED: The goalies were the stars of the first period, with Blues goalie Madeline Albert and Lakers goalie Chloe Marshall holding both teams scoreless. Albert finished the game with 28 saves.

Second-year forward Katy McKenna broke the deadlock in the second period with five minutes left. The Blues and Lakers would go back-and-forth in the third period, but with a second remaining Katie Chomiak scored for the Lakers to take the game to overtime, before potting her second straight goal to win the game. 

UP NEXT: The Varsity Blues return to action Saturday, February 11 when they face off against the Nipissing Lakers in North Bay, Ont. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
