Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

BLUES JUST FALL SHORT IN COMEBACK AGAINST LIONS

After coming back from a 4-1 deficit, the Varsity Blues men's hockey team fell to the York Lions 6-5 in overtime on Friday (Feb. 10) night at Varsity Arena.

With the loss, the Blues sit fifth in the OUA West division with 29 points and a 13-10-3 record.

WHAT HAPPENED: It was mostly a quiet first period on the score sheet for the Blues and Lions with both goalies standing tall for their teams. With under a minute to play, Brock McLeod scored for the Lions to open the scoring.

A goal-filled second period opened with the Lions doubling their lead halfway through with a goal from Klim Georgiev. Forward Owen Guy scored on the power play three minutes later to cut into the Lions lead. The Lions scored back-to-back goals from Brendan Browne and Brock McLeod to hold a 4-1 lead. The Blues ended the second period with a power play goal from second-year forward Cole Purboo.

Fourth-year forward Kyle Potts started the third period with a bang, by cutting the Lions lead down to one with a goal of his own. With just over five minutes to play, Derek McVey would score to give the Lions a two-goal lead. York wouldn't hold that lead for long with Ross Krieger scoring 15 seconds later to bring the game back within one, and Purboo tying up the game with 55 seconds to play.

Xavier Pouliot scored for the Lions in overtime to win them the game.

Blues starting goalie Jett Alexandermade 29 saves in the contest.

UP NEXT: The Varsity Blues wrap up the regular season on Saturday, February 11 when they face off against the Brock Badgers. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
