BLUES DROP DOUBLE OVERTIME THRILLER VERSUS LIONS

Needing two extra periods of play to decide a winner, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's basketball team fell 112-108 to the York Lions in a double overtime thriller inside the Goldring Centre Kimel Family Field House on Saturday (Nov. 25) afternoon.

Toronto played strong through the majority of regulation, bullying the visitors with their size. The Blues outscored the Lions 52-28 in points in the paint, shooting over 50 percent from the floor, while also adding three blocks defensively through four quarters of regulation and double overtime. However, the Lions were able to close the gap with effective outside shooting, nailing 16 three-point field goals, including five in the overtime periods.

Topping the Blues offence was fifth-year guard Callum Baker who finished one point shy of a career-high, registering 30 points in the Saturday showdown. Baker added eight rebounds, six assists, and an impressive five steals defensively.

Benefiting from U of T's mismatch inside, fifth-year forward Dane Quest added 27 points, shooting 10-for-12 from the field, while converting 7-of-10 free throws. Also surpassing the 20-point mark, combo-guard Noah Ngamba poured in 22 points in 40 minutes of action.

The Lions were led by former Varsity Blue Evan Shadkami who tallied a game-high 40 points in the win, including seven made three-point field goals.

The Blues will remain on home court for another two games, challenging the Lakehead Thunderwolves in back-to-back games next weekend. Tip-off for the first game at Goldring Centre is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 1, with the second at the same time the following day. Tickets for the final home games of the fall semester are available at varsityblues.ca/tickets, while the game is also available online at oua.tv.
