LAST SECOND GOAL PULLS WINDSOR PAST BLUES

The No. 7 ranked Varsity Blues fell 4-3 to the Windsor Lancers at Varsity Arena on Friday (Nov. 17) night.

With plenty of fans in the building for the team's Pride Night, Toronto's offence was flying recording 15 shots to the Lancers five. However, it was Windsor forward Mikayla Mailhot who would open the scoring late in the first period.

Scoring picked up for both teams in the second period and while Jessica Gribbon gave the Lancers a 2-0 lead midway through the second, the Blues quickly responded. Rookie forward Abby Whitworth opened her account with the Blues, as veteran Juliette Blais-Savoie found the first-year in front of the Lancers net.

The Blues tied the game shortly afterwards as second-year center Kaitlyn McKnight buried Katy McKenna's rebound in front of the Lancers goal to make it a brand new game.

Late in the second, Gribbons added her second goal of the night. Leaving the Blues to trail by one after two periods of play.

In the third period, the Blues tied it again. Third-year forward Nikki McDonald jammed the loose puck past the Windsor netminder to tie the game at three.

As the period progressed both teams pushed for the edge but Lancers goalie Cadence Petitclerc and Blues fifth-year goalie Erica Fryer exchanged save after save to keep the game tied.

With five seconds left in the third period, Windsor forward Leah Gervais scored the game winning goal to secure a 4-3 win for the Lancers.

The Blues have a quick turnaround with a matinee match up against the Brock Badgers tomorrow at 4 p.m. in St. Catherines, Ont. The game will be streamed live on oua.tv.
