Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

NO. 7 BLUES SHUTOUT BADGERS ON THE ROAD

The No. 7 nationally-ranked Varsity Blues women's hockey team picked up a 4-0 win against the Brock Badgers on Saturday (Nov. 18) evening in St. Catharines, Ont.

The Blues rebounded quickly after their game the night before, opening the scoring just 97 seconds into the game. Third-year forward Sophie Grawbarger found herself in front of the Badgers goal to receive a pass from fellow third-year forward Abby Howland to give the Blues an early 1-0 lead.

The Blues offence kept their momentum going in the second period. Third-year forward Emma Irwin picked up on first-year forward Ashley Delahey's shot that ricocheted off the end boards for her first goal as a Blue.

Less than two minutes later, the Blues scored again as Juliette Blais-Savoie buried Abby Whitworth's rebound, extending the Blues lead to three goals. As the Blues were on the power play late in the period, fifth-year defender Aubrey Cole unloaded a slapshot over the shoulder of Badgers goalie Kenzie Harmison. Cole's first goal in the OUA gave Toronto a four-goal lead after two periods of play.

In the third period the Blues played a stellar defensive game to preserve their lead. Fifth-year goalie Erica Fryer was rock solid in net, pitching a 30 save performance for her second shutout of the season as the Blues defeated the Badgers 4-0.

The Blues are back in action this Thursday (Nov. 23) night against the TMU Bold at the Mattamy Athletic Centre. The game is scheduled for 6 p.m. and will be streamed live on oua.tv.
