NO. 8 BLUES FALL TO GRYPHONS IN WEEKNIGHT MATCHUP

The No. 8 nationally-ranked Varsity Blues men's hockey team lost 7-4 on the road against the Guelph Gryphons on Thursday (Nov. 16) night.

Six minutes after puck drop, second-year forward Nicholas Wong secured the Blues first goal of the game, off a pass from third-year forward Billy Moskal. Nearing the end of the first, second-year forward Graham Dickerson put the puck past Gryphons goaltender, Tanner Wickware, giving the Blues a 2-0 lead heading into the second.

The Gryphons opened the second period with an early goal from center Luke Kutkevicius. The Blues regained their two-goal lead when first-year forward Mason Reeves scored his third goal of the season. Guelph scored one more goal before the third.

Despite holding a lead in the first two periods, the Blues were met with a hungry opponent in Guelph. The Gryphons surged ahead, scoring four consecutive goals and widening the score gap, which ultimately led to their win over the Blues.

Moskal scored the final goal for the Blues with under a minute left in the game, before the Gryphons added their final goal in the empty net.

The Blues are back in action on Saturday (Nov. 18) night at Varsity Arena, where they will face off against the Brock Badgers. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m., with tickets available online at varsityblues.ca/tickets. The game will also be streamed online via oua.tv.
