The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's basketball fell short versus the No. 7 nationally ranked TMU Bold falling 96-91 on Wednesday (Nov. 15) evening at the Goldring Centre Kimel Field House.
Â
Throughout the game, the Blues kept within striking distance of the Bold keeping within 10 points of the nationally ranked opponent. Toronto nearly completed the comeback effort, outscoring TMU 24-17 in the fourth quarter. However, a tough night at the free throw line for the Blues shooting just 67 percent proved costly in the come-from-behind effort as they came up just short in the attempt.
Â
Leading the Blues on the night, fourth-year guard Callum Baker poured in a team-high 24 points, while adding seven rebounds and one assist in his 36 minutes of play. Forwards Anthony Daudu and Lennart Weber added 15 and 11 points apiece, while first-year guard Nathan Bureau rounded out the double-digit scoring for the Blues with 13 points off the bench.
On the glass, fifth-year forward Somachi Agbapu pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds for the Blues, including five off the offensive glass.
Â
For the Bold, David Walker stood out scoring a game-high 33 points, inclusing shooting an efficient 5-for-7 from beyond the three point line.
Â
Toronto and TMU will be right back at it on Saturday (Nov. 18) afternoon when they compete in the second game of a home-and-home series. Tip-off for the game is scheduled for 2 p.m. with the contest streamed online via
