In a second game in less than five days, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's basketball team dropped a 100-93 decision to the No. 7 nationally ranked TMU Bold on Saturday (Nov. 18) afternoon at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.
After a back-and-forth first half, U of T turned up the pace in the third quarter outscoring the nationally ranked opponents 28-16. The continuous pressure from the Blues allowed Toronto to register 21 points off turnovers, while adding 16 points in the paint as the U of T forwards battled hard through each and every possession. However, the outside shooting of the Bold allowed the home side to respond as they finished the game shooting over 50 percent from three, with 13 made three-pointers.
Without all-star fifth-year guard Callum Baker in the lineup, Toronto turned to the duo of guards Noah Ngamba and Nathan Bureau to fill the role of ball-handling responsibilities. Ngamba was able to utilize his size and strength to register a team-high 21 points, while adding three rebounds, two assists, and three steals. Meanwhile, first-year standout Bureau added 15 points, two rebounds, three assists, and one steal. Third-year forward Lennart Weber pitched in with 16 points, while Blues guard Nadav Sahar rounded out the double-digit scoring performances with 13 points off the bench,
For the home side, Aaron Rhooms topped the Bold with a game-high 23 points, while Lincoln Rosebush nearly achieved a triple-double in the victory posting 20 points, 10 assists, and nine rebounds.
