TRUSSLER LEADS THE WAY IN WIN OVER ONTARIO TECH

The No. 5 ranked Varsity Blues women's hockey team picked up a 4-2 away victory against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks in Oshawa, Ont. on Saturday (Nov. 11) night.

The Blues got off to a fast start when Emma Potter's shot from the blue line made its way through traffic to give Toronto the lead just 82 seconds into the game. The Blues doubled their lead soon afterwards when Taylor Trussler's shot from in front of the Ridgebacks goal found the back of the net.

Trussler added another goal to her total midway through the opening frame after fourth-year forward Natasha Athanasakos sprung Sophie Grawbarger and Trussler on a two on one scoring chance before Grawbarger found the Blues captain for her second of the game. Both Grawbarger and Athanasakos picked up multiple assists on the night.

With the Blues up three after the first period the Ridgebacks got on the board quickly in the second as forward Harrie Jones scored 14 seconds into the period. Ontario Tech added another goal early in the third period to make it a one goal game.

Despite the Ridgebacks comeback attempt, the Blues played strong defence in the third and were able to neutralize Ontario Tech's chances.

Second-year forward Kaitlyn McKnight picked up an insurance goal late in the third, beating Ridgebacks goalie Jalyn St. Louis glove side to secure a 4-2 win for Toronto.

Fifth-year goalie Erica Fryer finished the night with 15 saves as the Blues picked up another win on the season.

The Blues next game is Friday (Nov. 17) night at Varsity Arena against the Windsor Lancers. The Blues will be hosting Pride Night during the matchup featuring a winter clothing drive and a pride pop up shop in support of You Can Play, The 519, and the Toronto Gay Hockey Association. Tickets for the home game can be purchased at varsityblues/ca/tickets, while the game will also be available online via oua.tv.
