U OF T SPLIT FINAL REGULAR SEASON DOUBLEHEADER VERSUS TMU

Closing out the Ontario University Softball (OUS) regular season on Friday (Oct. 6) night, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues softball team split their doubleheader versus the TMU Bold.

In a pitching duel for Game 1, the Blues came out on top defeating the Bold by a final score of 2-1.

First-year pitcher Julia Lacaria was outstanding in the pitching circle for Toronto allowing just one run on six hits through the complete seven innings, while striking out an impressive nine total batters. At the plate, Isabella Trakosas hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third to tie the contest 1-1 with TMU. Then in the bottom of the fifth, veteran infielder Amanda DeConinck scored what would become the game-winning run off a sacrifice bunt as Janelle Hodge raced across the plate from third base for the Toronto Game 1 victory.

Following the exhausting opening contest, the Blues found themselves unable to keep up with the Bold in a 10-0 Game 2 loss. With five-runs scored in the first inning, TMU were quick to claim the doubleheader split.

Concluding the regular season with an impressive 16-4 record, Toronto will now prepare themselves for the OUS Championship scheduled to take place at Budd Park in Waterloo from Oct. 20-22.
