The University of Toronto Varsity Blues defeated the York Lions 57-3 in the 53rd annual Red & Blue Bowl on Friday, October 6 at York Lions Stadium.

With the win, Toronto's second straight, the Blues improve to 2-4, while the Lions drop to 0-7 on the season. U of T earns their third consecutive Argo Cup and 11th in the last 15 years.

The Blues garnered 510 yards of offence, with 307 coming through the air. Second-year quarterback Scott Barnett went 15-for-17 for 277 yards and three majors, while also rushing twice for 19 yards.

Luka Stoikos led Toronto on the ground, rushing 10 times for 65 yards and one TD, while Adam Williams rushed six times for 46 yards and one major.

Rookie receiver Christopher Joseph amassed 92 yards through the air off of four receptions, scoring his first career touchdown, while Jake Oseen made four catches for 89 yards and two touchdowns on the night.

Elia Lini led the Blues defence with six tackles and one fumble recovery.

The Blues opened the scoring early in the first quarter as Stoikos capped off a six-play, 57-yard drive with a one-yard rushing major. A Sam Henke 31-yard field goal put Toronto up 10-0 after the first quarter.

Barnett then connected a 36-yard strike with Joseph for his first career touchdown reception. On the ensuing drive, rookie defensive back Luca Pante recorded his second interception in as many games, this time returning it 45 yards for the major.

Barnett then connected with Oseen on back-to-back drives for two touchdown receptions of 49 and 16 yards, respectively. York conceded a safety and U of T took a 40-0 lead into halftime.

Williams opened the second half with a one-yard rushing major and Toronto carried a 47-0 advantage into the final frame.

Henke added his second field goal of the game, this time from 30 yards out, while Brayden Parker notched U of T's second pick six of the game, returning his interception 64 yards for the major.

The Lions spoiled the shutout with a field goal with 1:02 remaining.

The Blues return to action next Saturday, October 14 when they travel to London, Ont., to take on the Western Mustangs. Kick off is set for 7 p.m.
