Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

NO. 5 BLUES SHUTOUT RIDGEBACKS AT VARSITY ARENA

The No. 5 nationally ranked Varsity Blues women's hockey team defeated the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks 3-0 on Thursday (Oct. 26) night at Varsity Arena.

Toronto's offence was firing on all cylinders and after a scoreless first period the Blues were rewarded for their hard work. Twin magic got the Blues offence started when Ashley Delahey's cross crease pass connected with Taylor Delahey for the latter's first goal in the blue and white.

Shortly after, while the Blues were shorthanded, third-year forward Nikki McDonald picked up a loose puck in front of the Ridgebacks net and capitalized on the chance to double the Blue and White's lead.

McDonald added to her goal total in the final minute of the second period with a highlight reel goal. She picked up a pass from third-year defender Emma Potter before dancing around a defender and the goalie and scoring while falling down.

In the third period the Blues got big saves from Erica Fryer, who had a 19 save shutout. Meanwhile the defence neutralized Ontario Tech's offence before the final horn sounded and the Blues saluted the fans after a 3-0 win.

The Blues return to the ice Friday (Oct. 27) night against the York Lions at Canlan Ice Sports. The game will be streamed live on oua.tv.
